Do GoTreads work on ice?

GoTreads have deep opposing arched grooves on both sides of each panel. The entire surface digs for traction. However, there needs to be material for GoTreads to dig into in order to work. If the ice is smooth and rock solid, then GoTreads will be of little help as they won't be able to grip. Some have combatted this by adding snow on top of the ice to sandwich between the GoTreads and hard surface of the ice.
